Go Green for Better Homes & Gardens

Posted in August 5th, 2009

Better homes & gardens mean greener homes and gardens. Everyone now knows that going green is the coolest trend today.

As we watch out for chemicals in our food, we also have to be mindful about what we use when we clean our homes and gardens. What we use in cleaning and maintaining our furniture, utensils and gardens can have harmful effects on the environment.

There are a lot of effective substitutes to your usual strong chemicals. They can also be more affordable. You can never go wrong with the following suggestions:

  • Cleaner. Get an all-purpose cleaner by mixing up half a teaspoon of washing soda, a dab of your liquid soap, and 2 cups of water from your faucet. Place the mixture in a spray bottle, and then shake them until they are mixed well. You can spray it anywhere there’s dirt, then wipe clean with a towel or a sponge.
  • Oven cleaner. Mix water, a cup or so of baking soda, and a squirt of liquid detergent. Of course, it would be best if you look for green liquid detergent, so that you are sure and 100 percent green.
  • Mold killer. Mix a couple of teaspoons of tea tree oil and two cups of water. This would give you a potent mold killer. Again, mix them well in a spray bottle and apply to affected area. The key to this is that you should not rinse it. Tea tree oil is a powerful ingredient which can address your mold problems at home.

Now, you can go green and achieve better homes & gardens! Save money, and save the earth while doing so.
